It’s not easy being in a successful business partnership or on a team. It is important the partners share the same vision for the organization. Like a good marriage they need to be in constant communication about the areas that matter to them. Teams need clear goals that are updated as they are accomplished or as priorities change. And sometimes it is good to have a third party to listen to their concerns and help them use their strengths to make the team work.
Many of my longest coaching relationships, some over 6 years, have involved working with teams.
Here are some of the issues I have helped teams work out over time:
- Helping brothers in business learn to work toward their strengths and trust each other.
- Helping partners in a technology business reinvent their company by creating a new vision for its products and services.
- Helping two financial planners that just formed a partnership work through the kinks of a new relationship.
- Helping two principals buyout a third partner.
I have used the “Better Way to Live and Work” process as a springboard for our continued work. This has helped the teams develop a clear vision and has been a reference point to refer back to in subsequent planning.
